10 Fantastic Superheroes From The Future

For a genre that continually reboots itself to retain the status quo, superhero comics sure do spend a lot of time wondering what will happen to their characters down the road. Visiting an alternate vision of the timeline or some dark – sometimes it’s good, but mostly not - future is a favourite pastime of many comic books. Naturally, then, a heap of superheroes who are citizens of centuries into the future have been created over the years, usually finding their way back into the past - er, present - to meet up with the original heroes that inspired them.

If you’ve been following superhero movie news of late, you’ll no doubt have heard a lot about Cable. Thanks to that handy post-credits scene in Deadpoolwe know that the anti-hero will appear in the sequel and currently everyone from Pierce Brosnan to Russell Crowe is rumoured to be playing him.

So, who is this guy and why should you care about him? Well, first up, Cable has one of the most complex histories in all of Marvel comics but, simply put, he’s a hard-bitten hero from the future. Less simply put, he’s the son of Scott Summers and Jean Grey who was transported into the future as a baby and returned to the past when he was a grown man, infected with a techno-organic virus.

As he also sprung from the brain of Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, Cable and the Merc with the Mouth have often teamed up over the years and fans have come to love their odd couple partnership. For being a celebration of the gloriously complex extremes of comic book mythology, Cable has to be the greatest superhero of the future.
