Pierce Brosnan Reportedly In Talks To Play Cable In Deadpool 2

The role of Cable in Deadpool 2 has got to be one of the most sought after in Hollywood at the moment, as every actor under the sun wants to hop on board the Merc with a Mouth’s next outing. And given how well the first film did, can you really blame them?

Almost ever since Deadpool hit theaters, we’ve been hearing of potential names for who may play Cable in the sequel, but speculation intensified the other week when Ryan Reynolds posted a photo of himself with Pierce Brosnan, strongly hinting that the former James Bond star had snagged the role. There was even some awesome fan art, which you can see below, that made it pretty easy to imagine him as the character.

Not everyone was convinced that it was going to happen though, as Reynolds is known for being a bit of a prankster, but it turns out that he wasn’t kidding around this time. That’s because we’ve now learned that Brosnan is indeed in talks for the role of Cable and is expected to sign on shortly.

20th Century Fox hasn’t commented on the casting just yet, but on the most recent episode of Meet The Movie Press, Forbes’ Simon Thompson noted that when he congratulated Deadpool 2 director David Leitch on casting Brosnan, he replied with, “we haven’t, yet.” Hardly confirmation, but then Mashable’s Jeff Sneider offered his thought on the matter, saying, “[Variety’s] Justin [Kroll] can’t say anything, but, yeah, I’ve heard it’s going to him.”

Again, this isn’t official confirmation by any means, but it’s looking more than likely that Brosnan is about to lock down the role and apparently, Reynolds is going to announce it in the near future on his Twitter account. It could even be as soon as this weekend, from what we’ve heard. So be sure to keep your eyes glued to the actor’s feed.

Admittedly, Brosnan wouldn’t be our first choice to play Cable in Deadpool 2, but he’s an interesting pick and we can definitely see this working out. His no-nonsense attitude, which we’ve seen in countless performances, could make for the perfect straight man to the titular hero’s mischievous personality, and we imagine that the two would have great chemistry.

What do you think, though? Are you a fan of having the former James Bond star in the role? Sound off down below and let us know!
