Bandai Namco announced today that the 90s-inspired, ultra-violent Shadow Warrior will rear its head on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 26th.
In tandem with the announcement, the publisher also revealed that Flying Wild Hogs’ bombastic reboot of the 3D Realms classic will include a host of features exclusive to the console version. First up, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners can look forward to an all-new arena mode in the rerelease, along with a hoard of weaponry from Devolver Digital’s other titles — including the Katanas from both Hotline Miami and the original Shadow Warrior.
In a statement, the company’s CFO, Fork Parker, outlined the passion behind the project, which is on its way to next-gen systems courtesy of support from fans of the 1997 original.
“Our fans have been very vocal about bringing Shadow Warrior to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One so we’re absolutely thrilled to be working with our friends at Bandai Namco to have Wang bring a sword to a gunfight.”
Described by many as the eastern version of 3D Realm’s other bloodthirsty maniac, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior has managed to carve out its own niche audience since it debuted on PC 17 years ago. And now, with revamped graphics, additional features and even an alternate campaign that pits players against the head of the nefarious Zilla corporation, the beloved shooter is set to live again.
With a release date set, fans of the cult classic can look forward to Lo Wang’s appearance on September 26th when Shadow Warrior hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
