Bethesda has announced that they are “close” to being able to release downloadable content for the PlayStation 3 version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The surprising update was announced yesterday on the company’s Twitter account, with the following statement  “To update: we’re also close on new Skyrim content for PS3 and PC.”

No other information was provided, so it is unclear at this point which piece of downloadable content will be released for the PS3. Our assumption is that Bethesda will release the Skyrim DLC packs in the same order that they appeared on the Xbox 360 (meaning Dawnguard will be first out of the gate), but that is just speculation at this point.

Back in September Bethesda announced that they had enlisted the help of Sony in an effort to get The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim DLC running properly on the PS3. This update seems to indicate that the collaboration might pay off.

We will let you know as soon as further details are announced.
