Sad news, Geralt fans: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will not receive enhancements for Sony’s PS4 Pro, developer CD Projekt RED has confirmed to Eurogamer.

Surprised? Frankly, we are too. The massive fantasy RPG is already a gorgeous game on console and PC, and while it already supports 4K on the latter, there’s no alternative for those that don’t own one. The fact that Geralt’s final adventure was almost universally lauded as one of the best RPGs ever made only makes the move more curious.

However, CD Projekt has provided a pretty sound explanation as to why they’re not committing to the venture; the studio’s time is currently taken up by future titles.

Both Cyberpunk 2077 and spinoff card game Gwent are two huge projects that seemingly demand the full attention of the development team, especially as CD Projekt has said in the past that the former title will be more ambitious then even the Witcher 3.

Since we want to fully focus on Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent, and converting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from a full HD game into a 4K one would be too much of a time and resource-consuming process, we decided not to release an edition of Wild Hunt supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro.

With all of that being said, there is a chance that the PS4 Pro’s powerful architecture will improve the standard version of The Witcher 3, but we can’t say for sure until the device launches in November.

Meanwhile, neither Cyberpunk 2077 or Gwent have been given official release dates, although we imagine the latter title will release at some point in 2017, what with beta tests already on the cards.
