Honing a similar, Samurai Jack-inspired style as its Metroidvania forebearer, DrinkBox’s latest effort is a first-person adventure that will pit players against an array of weird and wonderful enemies.

“Filled with ghastly enemies, including three-headed constellations, six-armed swordmasters and beasts made of crows, Severed has players take control of a one-armed heroine wielding a living sword as she knits together pieces of her story from both the past and the future. Players will embark on a journey through a surreal, nonlinear world by using a touch-based combat mechanic to defeat enemies in this first-person adventure.”

First revealed back in April, many had assumed Severed would launch across multiple platforms in the vein of the studio’s other titles, though DrinkBox has stated that the “combat and exploration mechanics were a perfect match for the Vita.” Without doubt, Sony’s handheld is a perfect platform for a game that implores you to adopt to fast-paced gameplay and twitch controls — we’re just hoping that the company’s latest outing finds a strong enough audience with PlayStation Vita’s humble install base.

Severed will make its debut exclusively on PlayStation Vita in the spring of 2015. For now, let us know what you make of this latest trailer in the comments section below.
