As the four corners of the gaming industry gear up for yet another entry into Activision’s Call of Duty franchise, Infinity Ward and Treyarch are offering ardent fans the chance to sharpen their proverbial trigger fingers all this week with double XP across Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Each studio formally announced the week-long event through Twitter, with things kicking off at 10am PST today, October 27th.

As Treyarch and Infinity Ward alluded to in the above Tweets, players will be able to earn double experience — maybe earning a final prestige in the process — all the way through until Friday, October 31st at 10am PST. What better way to usher in Halloween with some good ol’ fashioned multiplayer action, right?

Whether it’s your cup of tea or not, the event is no doubt intended to get players back onto the Call of Duty servers ahead of Advanced Warfare’s release next week. Should fans want to experience a near-future setting that bears semblance to Sledgehammer’s upcoming release, we would recommend Call of Duty: Black Ops II for its futuristic weaponry.

And while it doesn’t quite live up to the success of its acclaimed predecessor, it’s still worth trying your hand at the sequel one last time before the arrival of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Treyarch and Infinity Ward have confirmed that the double XP event for Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Black Ops II will indeed run from today right through until October 31st.
