F1 2013 Gets A Hot Lap Around Monza Ahead Of This Weekend’s Grand Prix

The Italian Grand Prix is coming up! Like, now! What, you're not excited? I'm actually getting a little bit sucked into this F1 stuff lately, and as much as I'd like to claim I'm actually knowledgeable about the sport, it's mostly just because F1 2013 looks so cool. Now, I know it's a yearly franchise, so I can't quite tell what's changed from last year or how much new stuff has been added since I never played F1 2012, but that hasn't stopped me from geeking out over pretty cars as Codemasters releases more info. So, I don't know - sue me.

The Italian Grand Prix is coming up! Like, now! What, you’re not excited? I’m actually getting somewhat sucked-in to this F1 stuff lately, and as much as I’d like to claim I’m legitimately knowledgeable about the sport, it’s mostly just because F1 2013 looks so cool. Now, I know it’s a yearly franchise, so I can’t quite tell what’s changed from last year or how much new stuff has been added since I never played F1 2012, but that hasn’t stopped me from geeking out over pretty cars each time Codemasters releases more info. So what if I’m a phony – sue me.

In honor of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, the publisher has released a new “hot lap” trailer, even going so far as to get famed Spanish Formula One racer Fernando Alonso to do the driving and provide narration. I’ll be honest, I had no clue what a “hot lap” even was, so I consulted the book of knowledge known as Wikipedia and discovered that it’s a race where contestants “drive around a race track without actually competing for a position or any other recording of performance.” Aha – thank you Jimmy Wales!

At any rate, the trailer is probably more entertaining to F1 enthusiasts than to anyone else, but at the very least it’s exciting and provides some genuinely pretty visuals. The trailer is quick to note that it’s comprised of “actual game footage,” which I had pretty much assumed, but in the world of CG approximations that we unfortunately live in, confirmation is always nice.

F1 2013 is fast approaching its October 8th release date, and can be had for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 come that day. I for one can’t wait to tear up some hot laps of my own in my 1988 Ferrari F1-87/88C (yes I just name dropped a car, and no I didn’t actually know that off the top of my head), so the only thing left to do is wait.
