Fortnite Is Adding The Mysterious Storm Flip Item Soon

If there's one gameplay element that Fortnite has always excelled at beyond any of its peers, it's diversity. Ever since the battle royale's popularity took flight into the cosmos, developer Epic Games has maintained its commitment to gorging players on weekly content updates. Not every patch brings with it sweeping sandbox changes, of course, but there's never a new gadget, weapon or vehicle far away, ready to make its mark on the metagame.

Ever since the battle royale’s popularity took flight into the cosmos, developer Epic Games has maintained its commitment to gorging players on weekly content updates. Not every patch brings with it sweeping sandbox changes, of course, but there’s never a new gadget, weapon or vehicle far away, ready to make its mark on the metagame.

In terms of recent additions, however, the futuristic Slipstream traversal system, as well as new hangouts Neo Tilted and Mega Mall remain the most major changes introduced with Season 9. Indeed, Epic appears to have been somewhat reluctant to make too many drastic modifications in a short span of time this time around, though signs of a shift have begun to stir. Hot off the back of last week’s introduction of the Burst SMG weapon, yet another new tool is scheduled to arrive in an upcoming patch.

The mysterious item is dubbed Storm Flip and was first revealed via Fortnite‘s in-game news feed, and you can check it out below:

What’s inside the bottle, you ask? We’re not entirely sure, though the brief description drops a few tasty hints. “Unleash the storm or tame it. The choice is yours,” reads the teaser, itself implying that the potent formula will serve more than a single purpose. It’s worth noting, though, that the ever-shrinking playspace in each Fortnite match is referred to as the ‘Storm Circle,’ perhaps suggesting that its use will somehow alter the latter’s properties.

Likewise, the concoction could have some connection to Fortnite‘s Storm Surge debuff, which periodically damages those players who have dealt the least amount of damage in any given match.

Whatever its function, expect the storm to arrive tomorrow as part of patch v9.20. We’ll have the full details for you then, so keep your eyes peeled!
