On one hand, the imminent arrival of Season 9 means the battle royale’s player base has been whipped up into something of a frenzy, thanks to various teasers pumped out by Epic Games over the last few days, but on the other – there’s still a transitional period to suffer through. As of now, Season 8 is, for all intents and purposes, in its death throes.

For hardcore fans that have already sunk an eye-watering number of hours into earning 100% Battle Pass competition, there’s little besides the ongoing Avengers: Endgame crossover to keep idle thumbs occupied, though as of writing, there are now less than 24 hours left on the clock until the refresh. Besides bringing with it a brand new wave of skins and other customization options, it appears big changes are in order for Battle Island itself.

Indeed, fans already have a rough idea of what Season 9 entails, but what of the more far-flung future? Thanks to a new listing present on Sony’s PlayStation Network, it appears we now have advance notice of when its successor is scheduled to kick-off.

As is tradition, it appears that Season 9 will run from tomorrow, May 9th, for three months. The end date just so happens to fall on Thursday, August 1st, meaning Season 10 is likely to either start then or the following week, leaving a gap week between each as is the case currently. It’s interesting to note, however, that the period outlined above means the upcoming period will last for a whopping 12 weeks rather than the usual 10, perhaps hinting that Epic is either making changes to the format or some form of special event is due to take place.

In fact, the extension could well come as a result of Fortnite‘s annual World Cup, which the studio has already confirmed will be held during Season 9, potentially explaining away its prolonging. Alternatively, it could simply be a case of future-proofing against any potential issues or hiccups.

Either way, we’ll no doubt be provided with all the answers as the year goes on. For now, Season 9 is Fortnite‘s main focus, so be sure to check back with us tomorrow for all the details as they emerge.
