As fans of the original are well aware, Type-0 is considered the more action-oriented sibling of the Japanese RPG series. And from this recently-released footage, the studio has given us a glimpse of the hyper-kinectic gameplay we can expect when the re-release launches in the early stages of 2015.

What makes Final Fantasy Type-0 HD so interesting, though, is the fact that it’s being remastered for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Originally, Square Enix’s title launch on the PlayStation Portable back in 2011 and never made its way west. However, the studio announced plans to bring the title to next-gen systems back at E3.

In its transition to new hardware, the game is poised to get a refined control system to better suit the consoles alongside a new lower difficulty level — given that the PSP release was notorious for being tough to beat.

Come 2015, it won’t be the only entry in the Final Fantasy series to make its way west, with the release of Final Fantasy Agito — a prequel to Type-0 — also poised to release across iOS and Android devices at some point next year.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 17th and March 20th in North America and Europe, respectively. The next-gen port will also include a download code for the Final Fantasy XV demo. Until then, be sure to check out the official synopsis below and the recently-released gameplay trailer above.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is set within Orience, a land divided between four nations: the Fiefdom of Rubrum, the Milites Empire, the Lorican Alliance, and the Kingdom of Concordia. Each nation has its own emblem and is blessed with a crystal that grants them unique powers.
