To celebrate the completion of their idiosyncratic indie title, Hohokum, the creative team at Honeyslug have unveiled a wonderfully weird launch trailer for the game, which places players in the shoes of a “crazy loveable hermit guy.”
Launching across North America and Europe on August 12th and August 13th, respectively, Hohokum will be priced at $14.99 (£9.99). In addition, those users with PlayStation Plus subscriptions in Europe are entitled to a 20% discount upon launch, alongside a static theme and a game-related DLC pack for Sound Shapes which act as pre-order incentives.
Moreover, the game’s lead artist, Richard Hogg, confirmed that Hohokum will also be cross-buy, meaning that that aforementioned price tag of $14.99 will unlock the peculiar puzzle platformer across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
Honeyslug’s title is also part of an indie quartet — alongside Rogue Legacy, The Swapper and the stealth-infused side-scroller CounterSpy — that makes up Sony’s annual PLAY promotion on the PlayStation store. For this, players can purchase the four games as a bundle and receive $10 as in-store credit.
Combining the whimsical visual style of other indie titles such as Sound Shapes with the gameplay mechanics of ThatGameCompany’s ethereal and minimalist Flow, Hohokum has been billed as a relaxing, dream-like experience by many critics. Also, given that Honeyslug’s eye-catching project was also nominated as a finalist at the Independent Games Festival in 2011, Hohokum has accumulated reputable praise in the build-up to release.
Hohokum has been confirmed to release on August 12th and August 13th in North America and Europe, respectively.
