Marvel Is Teasing Hawkeye For Its Avengers Video Game

Despite prompting jaws to hit the floor with its debut trailer for Marvel's Avengers at E3 earlier this week, there was one reveal (or lack thereof) that lovers of a particular character weren't happy about. Clint Barton, otherwise known as Hawkeye to his work colleagues and enemies, didn't quite make the cut for Crystal Dynamics' superpowered action-adventure. With not even the faintest of teases indicating the sharpshooter's appearance, fans immediately flocked to Twitter as a means of voicing their disappointment.

Had this been a small outburst, Marvel would no doubt have brushed it under the rug, but for Clint? That just won’t do. In fact, such was the outpouring of support, the topic began trending on the social media site not long after the reveal on-stage at Square Enix’s presser.

Thankfully, however, Marvel Games VP and creative director Bill Rosemann has since weighed in on the subject to give renewed hope that, despite the evidence, it hasn’t forgotten about the skilled marksman.

“Hey Hawkeye fans, we hear you…and we love Clint too!”, reads Rosemann’s address to fans, immediately followed by “Stay tuned, True believers!” While it’s not outright confirmation that Hawkeye will, in fact, make an appearance in Marvel’s Avengers (let alone be playable) it’s as close to a confirmation as we’re likely to get, at least this early on. With almost a year to go before the fruits of Crystal Dynamics’ labor are ready to be picked, there’s plenty of time for it to reveal further additions to the main cast.

If the above is any indication, then Mr. Barton will almost certainly have been bumped up the waiting list by a few places. Either way though, for a rundown of every confirmed and potential character so far, see here. And in the meantime, be sure to let us know in the comments below which Marvel character you’re hoping see show up in-game!
