Marvel’s Avengers Fans Want To Know Where Hawkeye Is

During Square Enix's E3 initial reveal of Marvel's Avengers, fans began to wonder where the sixth, sharpshooting Avenger had gone.

Hearing the phrase “Square Enix” might evoke memories of some of the best JRPGs from yesteryear, but if you caught a glimpse at the publisher’s E3 conference yesterday, you’ll know that there was plenty of western games on display. Sure, the Final Fantasy VII Remake is shaping up to be something truly special, but towards the end of the live stream, all eyes and ears were focused on a few key creative staffers from Crystal Dynamics, who were showing off Marvel’s Avengers for the first time.

Needless to say, yesterday marked a watershed moment for superhero fans. Sure, there have been plenty of standout video games in the past, but for every solid title, there are plenty of cheap tie-in products that completely miss the mark. Going off the initial reveal trailerMarvel’s Avengers is anything but. Not only will gamers be able to play as Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, and Black Widow, but Square Enix promised years of content updates, which will include stories and heroes released free of charge.

While we were treated to a fairly in-depth look at Crystal Dynamics’ roster of Avengers, there was still one question on everyone’s mind. Where the heck is Hawkeye?

The developer’s lineup of superheroes is remarkably similar to the one featured in Joss Whedon’s 2012 film, save for Clint Barton, who appears to be missing in action. Granted, it could be that Hawkeye’s gameplay style (sniping/long-range combat) didn’t mesh well with the intended feel and design, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating and posting online. In fact, some are theorizing that Clint may have already died, based on a line of dialogue from the game’s trailer.

Personally, a few of us here at We Got This Covered are holding out for Clint to make an appearance, especially since other heroes, such as Ant-Man, have already been teased. In any case, Marvel’s Avengers is due out on May 15th, 2020, so we won’t have to wait too long to see who makes the final cut.
