With the launch of Killer Instinct: Season 2 about a month away, Microsoft has officially debuted the first footage of returning cast member Maya. The Amazonian queen joins the already revealed TJ Combo as the only new combatants announced for the second season so far.
Originally debuting in Killer Instinct 2, Maya has undergone a complete visual overhaul. Gone is the skimpy and highly impractical green bikini she wore back in 1996, and instead, she now bares a more traditional warrior’s outfit. Sporting Incan-inspired armor, she now fully looks the part of a dangerous huntress.
While her outfit may have changed, the speedy nature of Maya’s attacks certainly hasn’t. Wielding her twin daggers “Temperance” and “Vengeance,” Maya tears through Sadira in the trailer. To go along with this beatdown, we also get to see footage of her unique level, which changes from day to night over the course of the clip.
Although it is is nice to see footage of Maya in action, we already knew she was returning to Killer Instinct a few months back. What’s more interesting to me, however, is the teaser footage of a new character included at the end of the trailer. Apparently Iron Galaxy Studios is looking towards classic Universal Studios horror films for inspiration, because I have no idea why they are choosing to bring a mummy to the brawler.
