Photoshopping a supposed “leak” is pretty easily done nowadays, but when you have multiple seemingly reputable images, from drastically different angles, suddenly things begin to seem a lot more believable. This is precisely the case with images that cropped up earlier today that seem to suggest a Wii U release of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

The 3DS hit (and, if you didn’t know, wildly successful franchise is Japan) sold 1.8 million units in its first two days, and that was a year ago. Its totals have soared since then, and as is per usual with the series, a followup “Ultimate” edition is on the way. The images on NeoGAF suggest that there is indeed a Wii U edition slated for release, the most likely reveal destination being the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. We can’t quite know for sure, but CoD-like explosive success of the series in Japan certainly makes TGS an appropriate destination for such an announcement.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is scheduled to release in early 2015 on 3DS in North America, and a concurrent release on Wii U could go a long way in strengthening the console’s 2015 lineup. Though its holiday schedule is looking stellar with titles like Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 2, more games in the new year can never, ever hurt — especially when there will be thousands more who own Wii U after the holidays. The Japanese release of the game is already set for October 11th, so it shouldn’t be long before we know the full scoop. Now might be a good time to revisit Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate while you wait.
