Pokémon X & Y Debut Strongly In UK Charts, GTA V Reclaims No. 1 Spot

Grand Theft Auto V reclaimed the throne in this week’s UK all-format charts, seeing off competition from newcomers Pokémon X & Y and Beyond: Two Souls in the process. As such, Rockstar’s sales behemoth overtook FIFA 14 to claim the number one spot, after EA’s footie simulator stole the crown a mere two weeks ago; mind you, GTA V witnessed a notable 53% drop in sales.

The full chart, as published by UKie, can be viewed below.

1. Grand Theft Auto 5
2. FIFA 14
3. Pokemon X
4. Pokemon Y
5. Beyond: Two Souls
6. F1 2013
7. Just Dance 2014
8. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
9. Disney Infinity
10. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

Sony and Nintendo’s aforementioned new entries fared rather well in the weekly standings, with Beyond: Two Souls entering at fifth and Pokémon X & Y shipping twice as many copies as 2012’s Black and White sequels on the DS. Quantic Dream’s latest entry failed to replicate the success of its predecessor, though, given that Heavy Rain entered the chart at number one back in 2010.

F1 2013 and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD witnessed slight falls in comparison to last week, with the two games falling to sixth and tenth, respectively. In terms of the new releases, however, the European version of Vanillaware’s RPG Dragon’s Crown, which ranked at 19th; as well as Mind Candy’s third Moshi Monsters title, itself entering the chart a little lower at 28th.

It seems Grand Theft Auto V and FIFA 14 will likely be at loggerheads for some time to come; in saying that, one can’t help but wonder if Pokémon X & Y could have surmounted the pair had Nintendo’s latest Pokémon duo been considered under one sales umbrella. Nevertheless, when it comes to physical sales, GTA V is still reigning supreme.

What do you think of this week’s charts? Are you surprised that Pokémon X & Y didn’t clinch the number one spot? Give us your thoughts below.
