Japan Studio has finally announced a release date for its futuristic, JRPG-styled title, Freedom Wars. The Vita exclusive, which launched across Japan back in June, has now been slated for release on October 28th and October 29th in North America and Europe, respectively.

Priced at $29.99, the title will be available both digitally and at retail, though European Vita owners will have to wait until October 31st to gain access to the game’s physical release.

In terms of story, Freedom Wars takes place in the distant future where the remnants of humanity have been locked up in mega prisons known as the Panopticons. With indefinite sentences hanging ominously over their heads, players are forced to team up with other inmates in order to reduce these sentences and, as the title suggests, regain their independence.

For those who wish to pre-order Freedom Wars ahead of its western debut, the studio is also offering several in-game incentives. These include a “Limited Edition Costume” so as to adorn your doomed prisoner with some nifty formal gear, a couple of heavy and indeed powerful starter weapons (Rocket Launcher and Heavy Melee) and finally, a stat-boosting combat pack along with an in-game sticker set.

Since it launched in the studio’s native region of Japan a couple of months back, Studio Japan’s new IP has been selling notably well — thanks to its Monster Hunter-styled approach to cooperative multiplayer, no doubt. In fact, Freedom Wars has since claimed the second highest opening sales for Vita software in The Land of the Rising Sun, so it’ll be interesting to see how much of an impact the JRPG has on western audiences.

Freedom Wars will launch exclusively for PlayStation Vita in North America on October 28th, 2014.
