NetherRealm Is Revealing A New Character For Injustice 2 Today

The pre-release hype for fighting games, especially those that are based on world famous franchises, is always fun to experience. One of the defining features of the genre is the large roster of characters, and the way in which developers incrementally reveal each entrant until the entire cast of playable fighters is outed is almost as fun to speculate about than actually playing the title in question itself.

Right now, NetherRealm Studios is doing just that with Injustice 2, and with a good few months to go until the superhero mash-up releases on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, there’s still plenty of reveals to come.

Today is such a day, as an image posted to the official Injustice 2 site (via GameSpot) is promising to showcase a new combatant to join the likes of Harley Quinn, Batman, Blue Beetle and the recently revealed Robin, but who could it be? Our guess? No idea. What with NetherRealm boss Ed Boon having said previously that he aims to include many more obscure characters than the original game, it could literally be any DC character, not just the familiar ones.

There could potentially be a few hints, however. Last month’s foreboding trailer had Poison Ivy, Brainiac, Bane and Robin show up during its duration, and with the latter having already been confirmed as playable, one of the remaining three could be up next. We doubt the wire-frame in the above teaser is meant to be indicative of who it will be, but who knows. We’ll know for sure soon, so be sure to check back later today.

Injustice 2 releases for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on May 16.
