Namco Bandai Games released several screenshots for their Star Trek: Into Darkness tie-in today, Star Trek: The Video Game, giving us a ton of new media to pour over while we wait for the game’s launch this April.

For those who have not been keeping up with the upcoming third-person co-op shooter, Star Trek: The Video Game was first announced back at E3 2011, and is based on the JJ Abrams’ 2009 film reboot of the Star Trek franchise. With that setting, the game has players take on the role of younger versions of Kirk and Spock as they fight against the Gorn aliens.

Now these are not your Daddy’s original Star Trek Gorn aliens, no Sir. These bad boys have been rebooted along with the franchise and no longer look like a man in a shoddy lizard suit. Where the original series Kirk could easily move out of the way as the Gorn threw incredibly slow punches, these rebooted aliens appear to be a much faster and menacing threat.

Unless you are playing as Spock, in which case you can just Vulcan nerve pinch them and go about your business. Hey, this is Spock we are talking about. Would you really expect, or accept, any less?

Star Trek: The Video Game will be released for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on April 23, 2013 in North America and on April 26th across Europe. This puts its launch a few weeks ahead of Star Trek: Into Darkness‘ May 17th opening, which is appropriate because the game acts as a bridge between JJ Abrams’ two films.

Check out all the new Star Trek: The Video Game screenshots in the gallery below, and let us know your thoughts on the upcoming game. Will it be a strong addition to the Star Trek franchise, or a quick cash movie tie-in?
