Star Wars Battlefront Hands-On Preview [E3 2015]

Although not much new gameplay was shown in our hands-on time, Star Wars Battlefront is still an epic, impressive package that can't come soon enough.

The sheer amount of players on screen at once was astounding, and the battle never once lost any momentum. Completing tasks for your side allows you to climb into a vehicle and take the fight to the skies, meaning only the most talented of us were able to climb into an X-Wing or a TIE fighter. Needless to say, I never even got to touch one.

Everything controlled flawlessly, and the experience felt like a finished product rather than a work in progress. I’ve been craving another fix of Battlefront ever since I hopped off my chair, both because I had such a fun time with it and because I didn’t really learn too much from such a brief preview.

Needless to say, much of the gameplay is reminiscent of past titles in the series, and the environment is eerily similar to the Hoth we’ve played before. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially since the game was such a blast to play, but I was hoping for a bit of a more varied look at what else is going to be offered, such as the touted survival mode.

Despite these misgivings, it’s easy to go ahead and give a seal of approval to Star Wars Battlefront with no fear. DICE has done an excellent job replicating the frantic feel of the battlefield, and the design of the title, from the sounds and music to the detail put into the graphics, is top-notch. I’m definitely anxious to see more of Battlefront in action, especially since it’s already a blast to play in its unfinished state.
