Staying in to slaughter zombies isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind when one envisions their summer holidays, but it’s exactly what developer Techland has planned for its legion of Dying Light supporters. Over the course of 6 unique weekend stints – with the inaugural event kicking off tomorrow, July 4 – Techland will offer fans the chance to participate in the events to unlock various in-game items.

Summer with Dying Light spawns from the studio’s light-hearted jab at Destiny and its partnership with Red Bull via the ‘DrinkForDLC’ promotional campaign, which rewarded those who posted a selfie of them drinking a glass of water and/or Re-Tweeting the post with a free high-tier weapon the game. Heck, DrinkForDLC even boasted its own stretch goals as Techland look to undercut the grey areas surrounding Kickstarter and its ilk.

To thank fans for their amazing involvement, today Techland announced an additional level to the Drink For DLC campaign. Techland have decided to design, create and release a number of all new free DLC packs for Dying Light throughout the second half of the year. The campaign will be led by the fans reaching successive stretch goals – by posting pictures of themselves drinking water on Twitter and tagging them with #DrinkForDLC.

Spider-Crane will get the ball rolling on Summer with Dying Light over the course of the holiday weekend. At the time of writing, Techland is yet to formally announce the specifics of the event, though we’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more. It’ll be followed quickly by the Harran Marathon on July 11-12, and while we details are still scarce on the ground about each content pack, one thing that is almost guaranteed is zombie slaying.
