Telltale Confirms Release Plans For The Walking Dead: Michonne

The Walking Dead is returning to television this weekend, which is a big deal for fans of the series, including myself. However, there's more to be excited about if you're an undead-loving gamer, as Telltale Games has officially confirmed that the first episode of its three-part The Walking Dead: Michonne mini-series will also debut near the end of this wintry month.

The Walking Dead is returning to television this weekend, which is a big deal for fans of the series, including myself. However, there’s more to be excited about if you’re an undead-loving gamer, as Telltale Games has officially confirmed that the first episode of its three-part The Walking Dead: Michonne mini-series will also debut near the end of this wintry month.

Those who’ve been chomping at the bit for more zombie-infused Telltale storytelling will want to mark February 23rd on their calendars, as that’s the day on which In Too Deep, the first episode of The Walking Dead Michonne, will go live across multiple platforms.

In fact, it seems as if both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will be available on the same day, which hasn’t always been the norm for this publisher. That said, the game will also debut on PC, Mac, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at the same time, while Android and iOS users will have to wait two additional days.

While we don’t have exact release dates for the following two episodes (Give No Shelter and What We Deserve), we’ve heard that they will be released in March and April, respectively. All three can be purchased for $14.99 USD, as a Season Pass-esque bundle.

In Too Deep kickstarts a story arc that will explain why the sword-wielding Michonne was absent between issues #126 and #139 of the comic book. When it begins, it will present our heroine (who has been voiced by Samira Wiley of Orange is the New Black fame) as part of Pete’s seafaring crew aboard the sailing ship, The Companion. And, while searching for both survivors and supplies, the two will find themselves drawn into the scene of a horrific massacre by a mysterious signal.

Through this three episode run, gamers will experience the reasons that drew Michonne away from Rick, Ezekiel and the rest of their group, and will also experience life as a woman who’s haunted by her past. As such, it should make for some insightful storytelling.

Stay tuned for our review of The Walking Dead: Michonne, which will be written on an episodic basis. Also, take note of that fact that fans can watch the first five minutes of In Too Deep this Sunday, February 14th, at 8:30 EST/5:30 PST, via Telltale’s YouTube channel.
