Speaking at the ongoing DICE 2017 event in Las Vegas, Rosemann offered a status report on the studio’s current slate, which also encompasses the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game currently brewing at Insomniac. When asked about Guardians specifically, though, the developer told those in attendance – as relayed by CBR – that Telltale is crafting a character-focused adventure designed to ask four pertinent questions.
“We are really taking it seriously and focusing on each character. As such, the game will explore the answers to four questions: ‘Who are they? What do they want? How are they a family? What could tear that family apart?’”
Marvel Games is currently firing on all cylinders. Three weeks ago, the studio announced a “multi-game collaboration” with Square Enix, starting with The Avengers Project. More details will be shared in 2018, but it seems there’s a second Guardians of the Galaxy game incubating over at Eidos Montreal, the studio best known for the now-dormant Deus Ex series. Tomb Raider dev Crystal Dynamics is the developer on board to tackle Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Still no word on when Guardians of the Galaxy will premiere, but all signs currently point to a release in April. Should those reports hold true, Telltale’s five-part adventure would serve as the perfect primer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, considering James Gunn’s cinematic sequel is booked in for May 5th.
Until we have official confirmation from Marvel, down below you’ll be able to find the game’s synopsis.
“Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series delivers a brand new story of the universe’s unlikeliest heroes, the rag-tag band of outlaws who go by the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of the Guardians has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands. From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, this five-part episodic series puts you in the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, told in the unique and award-winning Telltale style, where your decisions and actions will drive the path of the story you experience.”
