Ubisoft has formally revealed the next chapter in its first-person shooter series, Far Cry 4, which is set to launch worldwide on November 18th, 2014.

Stepping away from the tropical setting of its immediate predecessor, the game will take place in the fictional open-world wilderness of Kyrat which, as previously thought, is situated in Asia’s Himalayan mountain range, one governed by a tyrannical, self-appointed king.

Taking to the studio’s official blog, communications manager Gary Steinman outlined the premise of the much-anticipated next entry:

“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations. Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.”

Much like the company’s upcoming roster of titles, Far Cry 4 will straddle the two most recent generations of consoles, thereby launching on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

In fact, Ubisoft also revealed a pre-order bundle in tandem with today’s announcement for those looking to place their money down ahead of time. Entitled Hurk’s Redemption, the limited edition incentive encompasses three story-centric missions that will focus on Hurk himself, as well as a hefty harpoon gun. Because what’s a tropical paradise without some badass weaponry, right?

Of course, not much is known at this stage about Far Cry 4, but given the reception of Far Cry 3 both in terms of critical and commercial success, Ubisoft’s next iteration has quickly become one of the biggest releases of 2014.

We can expect to learn more about the company’s journey to the Himalayas at this year’s E3 event in June.
