This October, Microsoft’s Games with Gold programme will highlight narrative-driven gameplay, and will do so by offering some top-notch titles free of charge.

On October 1st, Xbox One owners will be able to download Ubisoft’s gripping World War I adventure, Valiant Hearts: The Great War, while the Xbox 360 will be gifted with that console’s version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Of course, the latter was made available to Xbox One users in August, as part of that month’s current-gen offerings.

Although Valiant Hearts is a very solid freebie in its own right, October’s highlight will most-definitely end up being Telltale’s The Walking Dead: Season One, which will be given away to Xbox Live Gold members starting on the 16th. What’s interesting to note is that both versions of the game will be free, so both Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners will be able to pick up the award-winning zombie epic without spending a dime. That’s fitting, given that the 31st is, of course, Halloween.

Also, as you’ll see in the above banner image, the current-gen port of The Walking Dead will remain free until November 15th, whereas its counterpart will revert to paid status following Halloween’s end. As such, you’ll have a full month to download it before it’s delisted.

Tell us: Are you excited about this fantastic line-up of free games? Or are none of the offerings up your alley?
