The 10 Best Moments From The New Captain America: Civil War Trailer

The second Captain America: Civil War trailer arrived yesterday and completely blew our minds. Hero vs. Hero! Friend vs. Friend! And even a surprise appearance by Underoos himself. It was certainly worth the wait. If we weren’t before, we are now properly psyched for the film, which is the second superhero smash-up movie out this year. Avengers: Age of Ultron might have lost its way a little, what withall the plates it had to spin, but we have faith in the Russo brothers – after the terrific Captain America: The Winter Soldier - that they can deliver something fan-pleasing but also keep it from getting bloated. The trailer also shows that the movie will still have a firm focus on Steve Rogers and what he stands for. This isn’t Avengers 3. It’s Captain America 3 but with the Avengers in it. And that's perfectly fine by us. So, on that note, here are our ten favourite moments from the trailer; the bits that really hit the spot or got us intrigued to see how it all fits together in the final product. 10) T'Challa Unmasked Previous trailers and posters gave us glimpses of Black Panther in costume, but now we’ve got a proper look at Chadwick Boseman in the role of T’Challa. He's caught in an attack on a UN building and it looks like he barely escapes himself. No wonder he'll end up joining with Iron Man on the side of the Accords. Later on in the trailer, we see T’Challa don the mask and show us how he is more than a match for the heroes we already know. In fact, he's so badass that he actually manages to haul Bucky off a moving motorcycle. Actually, now that we think about it, he moves like some kind of … panther. 9) Prison 42 In the comic series "Civil War," Prison 42 is the super-secure facility where superheroes who refuse to comply with the Registration Act wind up - and we would bet that this is the movie version of it. In the comics, it's located in the Negative Zone, but as Fox have the rights to that with the Fantastic Four, the prison is here found in the middle of the sea - more in line with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s other prison that's based under water: the Raft. Who cares, though, as it still looks pretty darn foreboding. What do you say the chances are that some members of Team Cap get incarcerated in the prison at some point in the movie? We think it's fairly probable. 8) War Machine Dead? We were teased this in the previous trailer, but this time we get a longer look at the scene, and it only seems to point to one thing – War Machine’s going to die. Here, it is heavily suggested that Rhodey’s death is what pushes the conflict beyond a disagreement into full-blown war. However, would they really give this shock away? Obviously, movie trailers are getting a lot more spoiler-filled nowadays, but we have a feeling that Marvel are deliberately leading us down the wrong path here. Unless, of course, there are so many more shocks to come that they feel they can throw away the reveal of Rhodey’s fate? 7) Whose Team Is Black Widow On? It came as a big surprise when it was revealed that Black Widow would be on Team Iron Man rather than Team Cap. Natasha has never been someone to play by the rules and she has already sided with Cap in going against those in power in The Winter Soldier. This trailer heavily presents her and Iron Man falling out, however, which just complicates matters further. Will she split from Tony and defect to Steve’s side at some point in the film? Or perhaps she's a mole planted by Steve in Team Iron Man? Whatever the case, it'll be interesting to have such a unpredictable character flitting between both sides. 6) "You Just Started A War!" This whole trailer has a really foreboding and brooding tone to it. In between the fan-pleasing reveals and the moments of action though, a lot of it is devoted to showing the growing rift between Iron Man and Captain America. It is disconcerting to see the two heroes veering away the personas we know so well. Both seem very world-weary but equally driven by what they believe is right, to extent that they would come to blows. “The world was wrong about you,” Tony says to Cap at one point. Ouch! This all comes to a head when Cap faintly pleads for peace but the two start duking it out anyway. This. Means. War… 5) Scarlet Witch V Vision: Dawn Of Marriage? Fans will know that Scarlet Witch and Vision have a long-running relationship in the comics, with the pair eventually getting married. We don’t know if things will go down this route in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but right now love definitely isn't in the air. Team Cap’s Scarlet Witch looks to be solidly beating Team Iron Man’s Vision in a fight here. It does make sense that the two of them would be well-matched, seeing as she got her powers from Strucker’s experiments with the Mind Stone. Although, seeing as Vision has that same Infinity Stone in his head, you would think he would have the advantage. And, who is that at Wanda’s feet? Could it be her Team Cap teammate Hawkeye? Gosh, we hope he's OK... 4) Ant-Man And Hawkeye Perhaps the second best easter egg in this trailer (I’m sure you can guess the best one) is the sight of Ant-Man attacking Iron Man by hitching a ride on Hawkeye’s arrow. Apart from a great and unexpected team-up between heroes, this is a nod to a fan-favourite event from the comics, one that adorned a cover of an issue of The Avengers. This one right here.... And, though we don’t see any evidence for it in the trailer, could Ant-Man’s redesigned suit now have the abilities to turn him into Giant Man, his other alter ego in the comics? Or, do we have to wait until Ant-Man and The Wasp for that to happen? 3) Crossbones Ever since Brock Rumlow appeared in The Winter Soldier, we’ve known that the treacherous S.H.I.E.L.D. agent would eventually become the supervillain Crossbones, as in the comics. If you’ve been pouring over all the behind-the-scenes photos that have leaked already, you might have seen him before, but the trailer gives us our first proper glimpse of him in action. The suit is a great update from the source material, with the crossbones symbol chalked across his chest. He also seems to be giving Cap a rough time of it, which is interesting to see. Come on, Steve! If you can’t beat this guy, you’ve got no hope against the whole of Team Iron Man. 2) The Money Shot And, here it is. The moment that we’ve all been waiting for. All of our heroes going at it! The Russos have apparently said they wanted this big moment to be like a comic book splash panel, which we think they’ve achieved here. There might not be as many characters on each team as there were in the comics, but that just means we have more investment in the fight, as we know each of heroes quite well. Wow. Well, they can’t beat that, can they? Hang on, who is that Iron Man's calling for? 1) "Hey everyone..." It’s Spider-Man! And he’s being summoned by Iron Man! And he just webbed Captain America! And now he’s holding his shield! Yes, maybe this moment will be diluted somewhat when we actually see it on the big screen, but Marvel had to put Spidey in their promotional material for the movie somewhere and this is the perfect introduction to him. Some fans may be complaining about the suit, but no doubt they'll tinker with the CGI some more, at least before his solo movie. What can’t be denied though is that his look is the most comics-faithful take on the character that there has ever been, complete with Steve Ditko-esque squinting eyes. It's simply spectacular! Is it May 6th yet?
