A dormant horror franchise many thought was dead already is now locked on a clear comeback path

Don't call it a comeback, it's been here for years.

The omnipresent horror genre is undoubtedly a cesspool crawling with once-popular franchises that have otherwise faded into the background in favor of fresher concepts. The most obvious culprits would be Halloween and Friday the 13th, although the long-standing Alien franchise is often overlooked and forgotten about. That’s not a hard notion to grasp, however, seeing as the franchise has laid dormant over the last several years and has not released any new films.

With the last entry in the film series releasing in 2017, die-hard fans have been wondering when a new project would be brought to fruition. But just when it looked like the chips were down, a thought-provoking post over on the r/horror subreddit insisted that a variety of upcoming projects are set to place the franchise on a strong comeback path. From engaging video game formulas to Don’t Breathe’s Fede Álvarez directing a new Alien film, it appears as though the comeback tour is more alive now than ever before.

On the other hand, fans have already believed for years that the franchise should actually be dead by now, seeing as a franchise made up of eight movies — with two more on the way — feels a little like overkill. Of course, OG director Ridley Scott insisting that the “Beast is done” and that new horror ideas need to be introduced certainly didn’t do the franchise any major favors.

Nevertheless, with a new FX series and Álvarez’s much-anticipated project on the horizon, the path has been greatly planned out for the future of the franchise. With that being said, now we’ll just have to sit back and wait patiently to see if Disney decides to cast more teen icons.
