A three-time Oscar winner reportedly boarding ‘Fantastic Four’ could confirm a long-held rumor

The dots are right there, ready to be joined.

Ever since the project was first announced, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Fantastic Four reboot has been buried under a deluge of casting rumors that have touted virtually every recognizable star in Hollywood that isn’t already part of the superhero franchise to one of the four key roles.

We know that Mila Kunis won’t be playing The Thing – thusly saving the internet from a collective meltdown – but it’s the reported addition of a key member of the behind the scenes team that might just serve as the confirmation of a long-held rumor. Scuttlebutt is sweeping the internet that legendary production designer Dante Ferretti is boarding Fantastic Four, which is exciting enough in and of itself.

After all, he’s won Academy Awards for the sumptuous aesthetics of Hugo, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and The Aviator, while the regular Martin Scorsese collaborator’s additional credits include the likes of Shutter Island, Cold Mountain, Gangs of New York, Casino, and many more.

That being said, it’s time for the whispers to intensify, because it’s already being noted that Ferretti almost exclusively works on period pieces, with his last modern-day production coming all the way back in Scorsese’s 1999 gem Bringing out the Dead. As chance would have it, one of the longest-held rumors regarding Fantastic Four is that it’ll be set in the 1960s, so this could prove to be a confirmation if it turns out to be true.

Of course, it hasn’t been revealed in an official capacity and Ferretti hasn’t worked on anything since 2016’s Silence, although the prospect of a Scorsese regular joining the MCU is nothing if not delicious.
