Rising star Alexandra Daddario has just snagged the female lead in Brad Peyton’s disaster flick San Andreas, which currently has Dwayne Johnson as its star. Apparently, the producers are attempting to “out-Roland Emmerich Roland Emmerich” with the film, and with a plot that sees Johnson as a pilot who “sets out to rescue his estranged daughter after a massive earthquake hits California,” they just might succeed.

The release date is currently set for the super-hot summer of 2015 (more specifically, June), meaning that San Andreas will be facing competition from heavy hitters like Jurassic World and Fantastic Four. New Line is obviously expecting big things from this one, and it’s not hard to see why. After all, who wouldn’t want to see Dwayne “Franchise Restarter” Johnson take on an earthquake?

As for Daddario hopping on board, you may not have heard of the actress just yet, but with a starring role in last year’s Texas Chainsaw 3D, a substantial supporting part in the Percy Jackson series and a current run on HBO’s True Detective, she’s certainly on her way up the Hollywood ladder of fame. Deadline is also reporting that Warner Bros. wants her for the Entourage movie, but that’s not official as of yet.

With Daddario and Johnson set to star, it looks like this one is well on its way to box-office success, and I’m definitely getting excited. I don’t think anyone is expecting an Oscar quality adventure, but I have no doubt that San Andreas will make for an excellent summer blockbuster and provide perfectly decent popcorn entertainment. Johnson instantly elevates any film that he’s in and with the goal being to  “out-Roland Emmerich Roland Emmerich,” you can expect one hell of a ride.

San Andreas will blast into theaters on June 5, 2015.
