An ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ breakout getting worshipped proves fans didn’t watch the movie close enough

He ain't no king, Twitter.

What’s there to say about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and the Spider-Verse films as a whole, for that matter, that hasn’t already been said countless times? Never mind the fact that they’re stating an impenetrable case as the best comic books movies of all time, and never mind the fact that they’re smashing multiple ceilings in the realm of animated films; Across the Spider-Verse has all the tools it needs to tango in any cinematic battleground it may find itself in.

Indeed, it’s hard to pinpoint a standout from Across the Spider-Verse when the whole film is a standout for pop culture itself, but that was never going to stop Daniel Kaluuya‘s Hobart Brown (aka Spider-Punk) from winning the hearts of many a Spider-Verse lover.

Of course, Spider-Punk fans will want to be careful in singing their praises for him; he made it very clear in Across the Spider-Verse that he doesn’t take kindly to labels (i.e. a king), and we doubt he’d take kindly to anyone that flings them his way.

In light of this, here’s some hearty, label-less praise for the guitar-wielding webslinger; the impact he had on the film’s ethos couldn’t possibly be overstated. From his camaraderie with Miles to his snappy dialogue to his instant crushing of any love triangle fears, Hobie deserves all the love in the world.

If I were to write a single piece on Across the Spider-Verse as a whole, the length would probably warrant a paperback sale on Amazon, so instead, please join me and the rest of the internet in gushing over Hobart “Hobie” Brown before I inevitably move on to the next delectable Across the Spider-Verse tidbit, each of them served up in the most acceptably bite-size way I can muster.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now playing in theaters.
