Evangeline Lilly Says She’s Inspired By Captain Marvel To Do A Wasp Solo Movie

In the recent Ant-Man and the Wasp, Hope van Dyne broke new ground for the MCU as the first female character to feature in a Marvel movie's title. Nonetheless, next year’s Captain Marvel is set to do one better, as the first female solo superhero film of the franchise. In this endeavor, Carol Danvers seems to have Evangeline Lilly’s full support, with the Wasp actress recently saying that there ought to be an all-female superhero team-up movie with Captain Marvel as their leader.

All the same, Lilly’s previously been a little hesitant about following in the Captain’s footsteps with her own solo flick, saying at last month’s Fan Expo Boston that she doesn’t want to break from the tradition of Ant-Man and the Wasp operating as a twosome. It’s a point that the star reaffirmed over the weekend at Salt Lake City’s FanX convention, too, saying:

“The original comic books, Ant-Man and the Wasp are a duo. And they’re always a duo. I mean, correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like you almost never see them not together.”

But after repeating her previous argument, the actress then went on to explain why she’s now changed her stance on the matter, and it apparently has a lot to do with the recent hype around Captain Marvel.

“And I’ve been asked, ‘Would you like to do a standalone Wasp film?’ And I keep saying, ‘Well, I don’t think so, because they’re partners, and they were always partners, and they’re original founding members of the Avengers and they belong side by side.’ And now I’ve been seeing posters coming out for Captain Marvel, and I’m like, ‘Ohh, hang on a minute! That looks really fun!’”

To be fair, Scott Lang already had the spotlight to himself in 2015’s standalone film Ant-Man, so perhaps it’s only right that Hope should get her own picture. Of course, this would first require undoing the damage witnessed in the surprisingly harsh post-credits sequence of Ant-Man and the Wasp, but here’s hoping that Captain Marvel can help an admirer out in next year’s Avengers 4.
