‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ miraculously avoids the MCU streaming curse as it finally hits Disney Plus

James Cameron is rubbing his hands together with glee.

For as much as movie fans with Disney Plus subscriptions constantly badger the Mouse House’s streamer to drop the studio’s latest films on the site, they always seem to complain about the thing once it’s finally on there. In particular, this has frequently happened with Marvel movies — Thor: Love and Thunder‘s reputation seriously tanked once it started streaming, the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania backlash only got worse and there were even complaints over Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Luckily for the MCU’s number one nemesis James Cameron, though, his own franchise-furthering sci-fi blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water is now finally on Disney Plus, and it’s managing to avoid this same curse. After many long months, the eye-popping sequel is available to stream for D+ users everywhere. And, you know what, they actually couldn’t be more positive about it.

Many wasted no time in sticking the movie on ASAP.

Others took the time to praise The Way of Water as even better than the 2009 original.

Jake Sully simps, your time has come back around.

Schedules are already been made.

Time to break your own rewatch record!

Somewhere, Martin Scorsese is leaning back in his sofa and hitting play.

Although, of course, this is Twitter so naturally some couldn’t let this golden opportunity to mock the film for its 3-hour runtime slide past them.

This generally genial reaction to Avatar 2‘s streaming arrival sits in sharp contrast with its digital release earlier this year, which saw all the haters swim up to complain about its meandering storyline and alleged lack of cultural impact. Maybe all the critics used up all their air on that occasion so now its Disney Plus premiere is being seized by its ardent fans instead.

Whichever side of the divide you’re on, you can catch Avatar: The Way of Water on Disney Plus — not to mention Max — now.
