Avengers 4 Theory Teases Life After Death For Iron Man

With Avengers 4 set to pass the torch on to a new generation of super-powered protagonists, the highly anticipated ensemble actioner likely has every intention of sending off some Phase 1 Avengers with a bang. Unfortunately, that almost certainly means a few fatalities amongst Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and while speculation suggests that Steve Rogers should be slightly worried, arguably the most widely predicted death is Tony Stark.

That being said, there are certainly some dissenting voices to counter the morbid fan art and tragic theories, which makes this recent Reddit post an interesting compromise between the two sides, suggesting that Robert Downey Jr.’s character could survive in spirit but not in flesh.

User Anuragtare references the “Civil War II” storyline from the comic books as a source of inspiration for their theory, arguing that while Stark may technically die in the fight against Thanos, the Avenger could still live on as an A.I. program created by the man himself.

The idea of Tony Stark going the way of L3-37 from Solo: A Star Wars Story certainly isn’t without precedent in the MCU. As Anuragtare points out, J.A.R.V.I.S. essentially undergoes the reverse transformation in Avengers: Age of Ultron, with Stark’s personal assistant forming the core software of the android Vision, albeit mixed with elements of Ultron.

Overall, this idea doesn’t seem too implausible, though if Downey Jr. truly is out of the game, then you have to wonder if and how this bodiless version of the character would speak. But whatever holes you can poke in this theory, there would be something eerily poetic about a man who spent so many movies tinkering with robots ultimately becoming one of his own inventions. Honestly, we can only hope that Avengers 4 has such a compelling conclusion lined up for the saga of Stark when the film finally hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
