Avengers: Endgame Passes Star Wars: The Force Awakens As Fandango’s Biggest Pre-Seller

Avengers: Endgame is now just a few hours away from arriving in North American theaters, and if the film’s phenomenal pre-sales are anything to go by, Anthony and Joe Russo’s latest work is set to do some ridiculous numbers at the box office this weekend.

In fact, according to Fandango’s managing editor Erik Davis, the Avengers: Infinity War sequel is now the biggest pre-seller in the ticket retailer’s history, beating out Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the title. On top of that, the movie has managed to sell out a record-breaking 8,000 showtimes. In a tweet from earlier today, Davis also offered a reminder that Endgame broke the first-day pre-sales record previously held by The Force Awakens (a feat that the film accomplished in a mere six hours) and outsold Infinity War at a ratio of 5:1 in its first week.

Fandango isn’t the only ticketing company to report that Endgame has topped their all-time pre-sales record, though. Almost two weeks ago, for instance, the movie achieved the same for Atom Tickets, comfortably beating the record previously held by Aquaman.

You can expect Endgame to break plenty more records at the domestic box office in the coming days, but in the meantime, the film is already in the midst of a triumphant theatrical run overseas. This past, Wednesday, the flick took in a global total of $169 million, while beating the single-day records in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia and (in terms of admissions) Korea.

As for the film’s North American forecasts, some box office analysts are suggesting that the movie even has a chance of approaching the $300 million mark, but we’ll find out if Avengers: Endgame can match these lofty expectations when it comes out on April 26th.
