Avengers: Infinity War Directors Debunk Captain Marvel Easter Egg

So it turns out that November 28th wasn’t quite the promotional milestone for Avengers 4 that many of us hoped it would be. To recap, a few months ago the fans thought they had discovered something pretty big in the New York action scene from the Russo Brothers’ last feature, and it was all to do with Cull Obsidian and the piece of fabric hanging from his waist.

As many have pointed out, the design on this sash looks an awful lot like Captain Marvel’s classic costume, raising the question of whether Thanos’ minion will somehow cross paths with Carol Danvers in her ‘90s-set solo movie. But while it’s hard to deny the similarities between these two patterns, Joe Russo reportedly said last night that this resemblance is nothing more than coincidence.

Well, that settles that, but while it’s not looking too likely that Cull will be making an appearance in Brie Larson’s MCU debut, we certainly can’t rule out further connections with the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Even putting aside Nick Fury’s post-credits cameo in this year’s release, Captain Marvel is still at most a couple of degrees of separation from the Mad Titan himself by way of Ronan the Accuser.

In any case, we’ll find out if Carol’s interplanetary adventures bring her into contact with anymore familiar faces when her first standalone flick hits theaters on March 8th, 2019. After that, she’ll be getting acquainted with the rest of the gang in Avengers 4, which is scheduled for release on May 3rd.
