Benedict Cumberbatch Showers Praise On Avengers: Infinity War Script: “It’s Very, Very Good Fun”

Chatting to Entertainment Tonight, Benedict Cumberbatch spoke a little more about Avengers: Infinity War and it's "fun" script.

Armed with the all-powerful Eye of Agamotto, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme is prepped and ready for a fairly significant role in Thor: Ragnarok and, perhaps most important of all, Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War.

Set for release in 2018, the featurette above serves as a pointed reminder of how Infinity War stands as the culmination of not just Phase Three, but the entire MCU thus far, so it’s small wonder why Cumberbatch and his green-tinged Infinity Stone are considered indispensable.

But what does the British thesp think of Marvel’s titanic event film? Entertainment Tonight caught up with the Sherlock actor in anticipation of Doctor Strange‘s release on home video, and it was here that Cumberbatch and co-star Benedict Wong solicited questions pertaining to Scott Derrickson’s origin story, Infinity War, and the MCU as a whole. First off, Benedict Cumberbatch began by showering praise on the script that Joe and Anthony Russo have assembled, stating: “I’ve got a script and I’ve been reading it; it’s very, very good fun.”

An actor lumping praise on one of their upcoming projects admittedly isn’t something that’ll stop the presses anytime soon, but it’s still interesting to learn each Cumberbatch’s reaction to a premise that’s designed to bring together some of the most iconic names in comic book history.

Speaking of which, Wong, who is expected to reprise the role of Wong – the character, not the actor – in Avengers: Infinity War, then cherry-picked the one Avenger he can’t wait to share the screen with. Spoilers: it’s Spidey.

“Well, you know, I mean, being a Spider-Man fan, I’d like Wong and the web-slinger. That’d be quite cool. I collected Spider-Man comics growing up as a kid.”

On May 4th, 2018, Joe and Anthony Russo will go from Civil War to Infinity War. Its untitled Avengers sequel will follow in May of 2019 but don’t fret, there’s still plenty to look forward to in the build-up to Thanos’ grand master plan taking hold, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther solo movie.
