Kit Harington’s Black Knight Will Have A Major Role In The Eternals

This past weekend brought the news that Game of Thrones' Kit Harington is set to join the MCU in The Eternals. The British star will fittingly be playing the first English superhero to make their way into the franchise: Dane Whitman AKA Black Knight. Kevin Feige has teased that there's more to come from Harington's character in the future as well, but what kind of role will he have in his debut movie?

Well, We Got This Covered has been informed by our sources – the same ones who first told us Black Knight was coming to the MCU back in April, before it was confirmed at D23 – that Whitman will be an important part of The Eternals, with Harington said to have a major role. Specifically, we’ve been told that Black Knight serves as the love interest for Sersi, as played by Gemma Chan. Likewise, we’ve had it confirmed that he’ll get his suit of armor and mystical sword in the film to boot.

All things considered, then, it sounds like this isn’t one of those times when a character’s dropped in for a cameo to set up a bigger appearance later down the line, and fans can indeed look forward to Harington nabbing a fair chunk of screentime in The Eternals. Our source says this is in advance of a possible standalone movie for the medieval-themed hero, too, which could lead to Black Knight joining the rebooted Avengers line-up as well.

Of course, Harington will be just one part of an impressively starry ensemble cast. Unlike the human Black Knight, his co-stars will be playing members of the eponymous Eternals, a race of immortals created by the Celestials millennia ago. Angelina Jolie (Thena), Richard Madden (Ikaris), Salma Hayek (Ajak), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos) and Barry Keoghan (Druig) are just a few names set to feature.

We’ve known that Marvel has had big plans for Black Knight in the MCU since rumors started popping up last year, and with Harington having put Jon Snow behind him now, it seems he’s ready to create another iconic character in another beloved franchise. We’ll see what impact he makes as Dane Whitman when The Eternals arrives in theaters on November 6th, 2020.
