It’s been an eventful week for news on James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and having already heard the latest updates on returning players Deadshot, Harley Quinn and Rick Flag, a new report from Collider now has some details about some of the newcomers expected to make their DCEU debuts in the upcoming film.

The article relays word of four characters who are expected to be introduced in Gunn’s flick. First on the list is Ratcatcher, who’s a man in the comics but is expected to be gender-swapped for the movie. The backstory of Ratcatcher is that she was an exterminator who became a master criminal capable of controlling small rodents. After that, you have King Shark, a humanoid shark whose father is believed to be the so-called Shark God.

Then there’s Polka-Dot Man, who grows multi-colored polka dots on his body that he can turn into fireballs and other weapons. The report adds that this particular villain is embarrassed about his awkward abilities. And last on the list is Peacemaker, an extreme pacifist who would kill in the name of peace. According to the site’s sources, Gunn is interested in seeing Dave Bautista in the role.

So, those are the reported four, and one thing you may notice that they all have in common is that they’re utterly ridiculous, suggesting that Gunn is planning to lean into the absurdity of the comic book genre in much the way he did for his two Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

In any case, the Collider piece stresses that there’s still time for any of these characters to be written out of the script, though with THR recently reporting that The Suicide Squad is moving quickly into the casting stage, hopefully we’ll get some clarification soon enough. Either way, we’ve still got some wait to go before the film hits theaters on August 6th, 2021.
