It’s been a long, crazy ride for the cast and crew of Avengers: Infinity War and (the as yet untitled) Avengers 4.
Beginning in 2017, Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers brought together pretty much every single actor to ever have donned a brightly colored costume in the MCU for what’s surely going to go down in history as the most ambitious celluloid superhero tale of all-time. Now, as we begin 2018, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany have all announced that they’ve finished shooting their scenes for the project, and the latest to join that list is Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth.
The actor, in an interview with Collider about his upcoming film 12 Strong, revealed that he hung up his hammer just this week. Given that he’s been shooting Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 back to back, I think he’s earned a little downtime as the God of Thunder – especially given that he’s been beaten to hell and back and also lost an eye in the process. We also know that Infinity War kicks off pretty much where Ragnarok left off, so let’s hope Thor gets some kind of holiday or break after whatever Thanos has in store for him.
Right now, we don’t know a huge amount about the character’s involvement in the upcoming blockbuster, save that he’s going to craft some kind of new weapon and may (or may not) regenerate his lost eye. One thing that’s sure to be making fans nervous though is Marvel Studios’ statement that some old favorites won’t survive past Phase 3, with new blood ready and waiting to step into their places.
If Hemsworth is to be among them, he’ll no doubt have already shot his farewell to the MCU. I personally hope he sticks around for a good while to come, though. After all, who else could play a superhero with as much hunky charisma as him?
