Concept Art For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Paints Gamora And Nebula In A Slightly Different Light

Marvel concept artists Andy Park has rolled out a pair of striking Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 pieces dedicated to Gamora and Nebula.

Forget Star-Lord and Kurt Russell’s Ego, the Living Planet; there’s another family feud coursing through the veins of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and it involves the warring step-siblings of Thanos: Gamora and Nebula.

Played by Zoe Saldana and Karen Gillan, respectively, the tension bubbling between Gamora and Nebula is enough to fuel one of the sequel’s more intriguing relationships, and writer-director James Gunn has already presented a spoiler-filled post-mortem on one key scene in particular.

But today’s media dump isn’t so much concerned with story details as it is the pre-production process on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, when Marvel concept artist Andy Park (Thor: Ragnarok) was in the process of rendering designs for a handful of the sequel’s primary characters with a “rock star vibe.” Posted to Park’s personal Instagram page (with a tip of the hat to CBM), you’ll be able to find those gorgeous one-sheets down below, along with a sneak peek at Star-Lord. Granted, these mockups aren’t radically different from the final character designs seen in James Gunn’s acclaimed – and financially lucrative – sequel, but it’s nevertheless an interesting peek into the film’s creative process.

And for good measure, we’ve also included Park’s depiction of Star-Prince Star-Lord:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 zoomed into theaters earlier this month sans Nathan Fillion – read the full story behind that fabled cameo here – and yes, James Gunn is already beginning to formulate and compose Vol. 3. Turns out Gunn wasn’t always on board with the prospect of Guardians 3, but with the wheels now officially in motion, there’s already been chatter of a possible release in 2020.
