Disney CEO Praises Star Wars: The Last Jedi After Watching Early Cut

We recently learned when the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is expected to debut, and while that's definitely exciting, Disney head honcho Bob Iger has fuelled the hype train even more by revealing that he's already seen an early cut of the movie. Talk about the perks of the job, eh? As expected, he had nothing but good things to say about the Rian Johnson-helmed release, though he obviously wouldn't reveal too much.

After confirming that he’s indeed watched the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster, Iger added that it’s “a great next chapter in the iconic Skywalker family saga.” Again, his comments don’t really tell us a whole lot about what to expect, but the fact that the movie is essentially completed is definitely an exciting takeaway. It’s had a long production and to hear that an early cut is already being screened for Disney execs – not to mention that they’re happy with it – is encouraging. Hopefully it means that there won’t be any reshoots needed here, like we saw with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Sure, that movie was still a hit, but Disney and Lucasfilm clearly have faith in Star Wars: The Last Jedi in its current state for Iger to have made these comments. Special effects no doubt still need to be added, but that’s standard for a big budget blockbuster like this, and enough of those should be completed in time for the trailer’s debut in April.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hasn’t suffered from the same leaks as its predecessor, so we have no idea what to expect just yet, but if Iger’s comments are anything to go by – and we have no reason not to believe him – the film is sure to bring audiences a pretty special experience when it opens on December 15th.
