Global superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to lace up his ass-kicking boots once more as THR is reporting that the in-demand thespian has signed on to headline MGM’s Seal Team 666.

Johnson (who has become the go-to guy that Hollywood enlists to resuscitate near-dead franchises, e.g. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Fast Five and G.I. Joe: Retaliation), has just wrapped the Brett Ratner-directed Hercules: The Thracian Wars for Paramount/MGM, and looks to remain busy as he attaches himself to this upcoming project.

Based upon the popular book by Weston Ochse, Seal Team 666 follows “a group of highly-trained SEAL operatives who specialize in the elimination of demons and other supernatural forces.” Considering the fact that Johnson has a storied history when it comes to portraying military-based characters (Doom, the aforementioned G.I. Joe), this project seems custom-made for The Rock, and should have no problem becoming a lucrative franchise for MGM.

Take a look at the synopsis of the book provided by Amazon and you will no doubt see the obvious franchise potential in it:

“Weston Ochse’s SEAL Team 666 follows Cadet Jack Walker. Halfway through SEAL training, he’s still green but showing incredible promise when he’s whisked away to join four SEALs—and their dog—for a special ops mission. Walker soon finds himself in a whirlwind of otherworldly creatures and events as he finds out the true nature of this “special ops” team: SEAL Team 666. Battling demons, possessed humans, mass-murdering cults, and evil in its most dark and primeval form, SEAL Team 666 has their work cut out for them. And it’s not long before they realize that the threat isn’t just directed against the U.S.—an ancient and deadly cult has bigger plans, and Walker is at the center of a supernatural conflict with the entire world at stake.”

Seal Team 666 is to be adapted by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Hercules) and will be executive produced by Johnson along with Dany Garcia, Brendan Deneen and Peter Joseph of Macmillan Films. No director is attached as of yet and so far, Dwayne Johnson is the only cast name we have.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when we have more. For now though, tell us, is Seal Team 666 set to become the next big Hollywood franchise led by The Rock? Let us know in the comments section below.
