The Eternals may be one of the lesser know properties to have a film scheduled for Marvel’s Phase 4, but the cast of Chloé Zhao’s upcoming flick already seem pretty confident that they could hold their own against the MCU’s biggest stars.
Speaking to Variety at this weekend’s D23 Expo, actors Brian Tyree Henry and Kumail Nanjiani took the opportunity to hype up the new team. First, Henry pointed out that the Eternals are among the MCU’s oldest heroes:
“We built humanity and we’re here to save humanity because sometimes, in this world we live in, things don’t always go as planned and we are gods, in a way.”
Nanjiani then made the case that the franchise’s most famous superhero teams owe the Eternals a huge debt of gratitude:
“Without us, there would be no Avengers. There would be no Guardians of the Galaxy, there would be no galaxy, so you’re welcome Chris Pratt’s character.”
Henry and Nanjiani wrapped up their remarks by agreeing that while they aren’t trying to start any beef with the Guardians and the Avengers, if it ever came down to a fight, the Eternals “could destroy them.”

Though we still have over a year to wait before we can witness the full extent of the Eternals’ powers, we can at least give Zhao’s film props for its star-studded cast. While Henry and Nanjiani take on the roles of Phastos and Kingo, respectively, Angelina Jolie makes her MCU debut as Thena, while Kit Harington was recently announced as the new Dane Whitman, aka Black Knight.
Incidentally, the Eternals seems to be the only superhero team with their own movie in Marvel’s Phase 4. While the Avengers series looks to be taking a break after this year’s Endgame, a release date has yet to be set for the heavily delayed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But while we wait for further news on those two properties, we’ll find out if the Eternals can live up to the hype when their film hits theaters on November 6th, 2020.
