Evangeline Lilly Wants Captain Marvel To Lead The All-Female Marvel Movie

With the exception of Captain Marvel and the Black Widow spinoff that's still simmering away in the early stages of development, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is seriously lacking when it comes to female-led movies. But that's all about to change.

With the exception of Captain Marvel and the Black Widow spinoff that’s still simmering away in the early stages of development, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is seriously lacking when it comes to female-led movies. But that’s all about to change.

On the eve of Avengers 4 and the advent of Marvel’s Phase 4, the likes of Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok), Scarlett Johannson (Black Widow) and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler have all expressed interest in putting together a Marvel spinoff built around the studio’s leading ladies. And it seems Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s Evangeline Lilly is on board with the idea, too.

In fact, not only is she on board with it, but the actress also believes that Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers should be the one to take the lead in the proposed film. Talking to PopSugar, she said:

“Well, it seems only natural Captain Marvel would lead because she is a general? And she’s the captain. And Captain America leads the other Avengers, right, so maybe Captain Marvel would lead. I’d think so.”

Continuing on, Lilly noted that an all-female Marvel film could totally reinvent the wheel and change the game, explaining:

“I think I’m being a bit old fashioned and maybe a little bit rigid about this, because if it is an all-female Avengers film, then the sky’s the limit. We can reinvent the wheel,” she said. “We don’t have to do anything that anyone’s ever done before. We can just make it all up and change the game.”

Though Marvel hasn’t announced anything in regards to an all-female team-up pic just yet, after Wonder Woman proved that female-led comic book movies can do big business, the future’s pretty clear. It’s not like the studio’s short on characters to bring to the big screen, either, should they want to introduce more women into the MCU. From Lady Thor to Spider-Woman, and Mr. Marvel to She-Hulk, there’s a lot of options out there and we’d love to see the House of Ideas start bringing some of them to theaters.

Whatever ends up happening though, whether it be just more female-led films or an actual all-female team-up movie, one thing that’s abundantly clear is that Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be all about the girls.
