Evangeline Lilly Teases The Wasp’s Unusual Origin Story In Ant-Man 2

Now that seemingly anybody with a pulse has seen Black Panther, we can look ahead toward Marvel Studios' other two cinematic offerings to come in 2018, those being Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Of course, there'll be some overlap with them, too, for the obvious characters will be pulling double duty.

Truth be told, as much as casual moviegoers are probably anticipating seeing the return of Scott Lang, it could be argued that diehard comic book geeks are looking forward to seeing the co-headliner in the sequel donning her full regalia just as much. After all, we were granted merely a hint of what was in Hope Van Dyne’s future in 2015’s Ant-Man, so it should be exciting to see her take flight this summer.

Brought to life by the equally kick-ass Evangeline Lilly, Peyton Reed’s upcoming sequel will act as an origin story of sorts for the character, though it won’t be like all the other origin stories we see. And that’s because Hope won’t be making too many mistakes when she first suits up. Typically, the hero makes a few blunders when they initially set out, but according to Lilly, that won’t be the case here.

“You’ve never seen a superhero origin story with less blunders,” says the actress. “She knows what she’s doing, and she’s been grooming herself for this moment her whole life. The satisfaction in watching her finally get to live it out is really fun.”

Given that fans have been waiting for the Wasp to take flight for a while now, it’s nice to hear that she’ll be jumping right into things and won’t have any stumbles along the way, like Scott Lang did. Together, the duo should make for a pretty formidable team and we’ll get to see them in action soon enough, as Ant-Man and the Wasp is booked in for a release on July 6th.

By that point, the world will have already bore witness to Avengers: Infinity War and all of its many Earth-shaking events. But don’t fret; just like Black Panther before it, Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man sequel will seemingly take place soon after the fallout of Marvel’s Civil War.
