According to THR, the search for a screenwriter to pen the Fifty Shades of Grey film is almost at an end. Producers Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca have narrowed down their choices to four candidates, four unlikely candidates that is.

The four individuals that are up for the job are Veena Sud, Dan Fogelman, Kelly Marcel and Karen Corner. Admittedly, none of these names carry with them too high of a profile but you may be familiar with one or two.

Sud is the person responsible for AMC’s The Killing and Fogelman was behind Crazy, Stupid, Love and Cars 2, among other titles. As for Macel, she created the television show Terra Nova and Corner wrote the upcoming Paul Weitz film, titled Admission.

The choices are certainly odd, and to be honest, I don’t know what the producers see in these four individuals. None of their resumes suggest to me that they should have any business writing this film and Fifty Shades of Grey is probably the furthest thing from what these writers are known for.

With a project this big, Brunetti and De Luca could surely attract some higher profile writers and it puzzles me as to why they’ve settled on these four. But, then again, this is the producing team behind The Social Network, so we shouldn’t doubt them.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more news on who will be writing Fifty Shades of Grey.
