With shooting underway on Fox’s R-rated Wolverine standalone pic, all kinds of intel has been leaking out onto the web about the anticipated film, from news about X-23’s confirmed involvement to Hugh Jackman’s transformation into an Old Man Logan-esque version of his most iconic character.

Today, another interesting tidbit is making the rounds, related to an actual concrete title for the threequel (it’s been understood since the project’s inception that The Wolverine 3 was always more of a placeholder). 20th Century Fox has registered two potential titles for the movie:

Not every title that gets registered by a studio ends up getting used, but given that the film is well into shooting, it seems like a pretty good bet that either Wolverine: Weapon X or just Weapon X will end up being the official title.

And though we don’t know all that much about the plot of the solo outing, which is set to be Jackman’s last time donning the adamantium claws to play Wolverine, connecting the pic to Weapon X, always a pivotal part of the character’s backstory, makes a lot of sense.

So far, it’s come out that the Wolverine threequel will be set in the future and take some cues from Mark Millar’s seminal comic arc Old Man Logan. For those of you who are unfamiliar with that story, it finds Logan in a dystopian future, wherein supervillains have taken control of the world and superheroes are living normal, quiet lives, trying to stay under the radar. Of course, given that this is Wolverine we’re talking about, “staying under the radar” doesn’t exactly work out.

The Wolverine 3 hits theaters on March 3rd, 2017. Stay tuned, as there will almost certainly be more updates on the project as we edge closer to Comic-Con.
