Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Director Shares New Photo Of King Ghidorah

Though 2014’s Godzilla took a surprisingly restrained approach to presenting the clash between giants, Godzilla: King of the Monsters helmsman Michael Dougherty offered his assurance last December that there’ll be “no holding back” in the upcoming sequel.

Sure enough, the promotion for the Big G’s second MonsterVerse outing hasn’t been shy about putting the film’s various beasts in the spotlight, and in a recent tweet from Dougherty himself, the director continues this trend with another dazzling pic of King Ghidorah, where the three-headed kaiju looks just about ready to bring the apocalypse against a backdrop of lightning and smoke. In the face of such an ominous image, no words are necessary, and so Dougherty’s accompanying message is just a quick reminder of one of the Titan’s various nicknames:

“The Golden Demise.”

Ghidorah won’t be the only classic kaiju to make his MonsterVerse debut in Dougherty’s film, with the winged beasts Rodan and Mothra also entering the fray for what looks to be a melee of international proportions. On top of that, the director has said that his feature will introduce a few original Titans, at least one of which may even be partially visible in the movie’s various trailers and TV spots.

With all these colossal creatures at war, you have to wonder how Godzilla vs. Kong could possibly up the stakes when it arrives in theaters on March 13th, 2020. Surely Ghidorah alone is a more formidable opponent than a giant ape, star power be damned. Ultimately, that’s for Legendary Entertainment to worry about, but in the meantime, Godzilla: King of the Monsters has a fair amount of hype to live up to when it hits theaters on May 31st, 2019.
