Greg Berlanti Will Remake Little Shop Of Horrors For Warner Bros.

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is looking to remake Little Shop of Horrors, and they've drafted in Greg Berlanti to steer the ship. Those of you familiar with The CW's Arrowverse will no doubt recognize Berlanti's name, as he's the producer behind Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow - which makes him an odd, but interesting pick for this remake.

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is looking to remake Little Shop of Horrors, and they’ve drafted in Greg Berlanti to steer the ship. Those of you familiar with The CW’s Arrowverse will no doubt recognize Berlanti’s name, as he’s the producer behind Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow – which makes him an odd, but interesting pick for this remake.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen an update to the classic story, as Roger Corman’s original 1960 film received a facelift in the form of Frank Oz’s 1986 musical. As for this brand new version, we’re not entirely sure what direction it will head in, but the project is being described as a “fresh take” on the material – so make of that what you will.

One look at Berlanti’s iMDB profile will tell you he doesn’t have much experience behind the camera, having only helmed two rom-coms (Life As We Know It and The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy). Neither were well received, but his CW work certainly makes up for it. Plus, he’s also attached to that Booster Gold film, which has a lot of people excited.

Whether or not audiences need another take on Little Shop of Horrors is probably going to depend on who you ask. Personally, we don’t necessarily see a big demand for this particular remake, but the 1986 musical is held in high regard by many and if handled properly, Berlanti’s version could give it a new lick of paint and introduce the property to a whole new crowd. Or, it could just go down in flames like so many other remakes of 1980’s films that we’ve seen recently. At this stage, it’s too early to know.
